Lucretia
Mott
(1793-1880) was an influential abolitionist and women’s rights advocate.
She had progressive ideas about the role of women and former slaves in American
society, and fought to make them reality.

She was a founder of the Philadelphia Female
Anti-Slavery Society, a multiracial community from its beginnings. She was one
of only six women to attend the World Anti-Slavery Convention in 1840, where
she made contact with English suffragists and brought their ideas to the United
States. She was the first president of the American Equal Rights Association.
